Why I Wanted To Start “Being Better”

In the summer of 2018, I graduated with my Bachelors in Geology. After taking my whole life in school to get a degree, I felt lost. I wasn’t happy with anything. I knew something needed to be set in motion, but I had no idea what it was. With school, the assignments and deadlines kept me in line. Now I was free from the curriculum and completely unmotivated to do anything. I would say I was on the borderline of a depressive episode, but I’ve been there before and it is not somewhere I want to go back to. I knew I had to figure out something or else everything would get worse.

It all changed when my friend busted into my house and started doing my dishes. She got me off my ass and moving again. This friend is one of the hardest working people I know and she always wants to encourage her people to be their best selves. “Do Better” was her motto and soon to be my motivational mantra. That little push helped me realize I needed to sit down and figure out how I could be better.

Reflecting on what I wasn’t happy with in life, I’ve narrowed it down to a few main aspects.

  • Environment
    • The environment you are in affects your mind set. Mine was a cluttered mess.
  • Finances
    • I had just graduated and needed to get a solid income and also to know where my money was going and how to make it work for myself. Creating a plan for my money would empower me and give me confidence.
  • Health
    • This would focus on both physical and mental health. The physical part will include an exercise plan and nutritional plan. The mental part will focus on journaling, self care, and maybe therapy! We will see when I attack that area.
  • Relationships
    • I really want to focus on maintaining and enriching my relationships with my husband, my family, and my friends. These can always be improved.
  • Daily Planning
    • Once all the prior subjects are in order, then the daily planning will help me upkeep each of these subjects in my every day life. I want to figure out how to do it in a way that won’t take much time out of my day or overwhelm me.

Initially I tried to work on all of these at once. I learned a lot and improved my mentality immensely. I am currently going through each of these again to improve my life further. However, this time, I will focus on one subject at a time, in detail. I’ll include my resources, my trials and tribulations, and my tips and tricks.

I am in no way an expert, but I have done a ton of research and went through/will go through each of these processes on my own. No matter where you are at in life, you can always “Be Better!”
